He completed his M.B.B.S. in 1977 from Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi, followed by a Diploma in Tuberculosis & Chest Diseases (1981) and M.D. in Respiratory Medicine (1984) from Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, University of Delhi. He also earned his DNB in Respiratory Medicine in 1984 and an M.D. in General Medicine in 1989 from Army Hospital, University of Delhi.
